Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program, or an accepted equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Alternative qualification: registration as a Professional Engineer in Montana and 2 years of in-service bridge inspection experience, including at least 1 year as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader.
  • Alternative qualification: a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program, proof of passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, and 4 years of in-service bridge inspection experience, including at least 2 years as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader.
  • Alternative qualification: 7 years of in-service bridge inspection experience, including at least 2 years as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, or 5 years of in-service bridge inspection experience plus 2 years of bridge-inspection-related experience, including at least 2 years as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader.
  • At least 1 year of supervision or leadership experience.
  • Montana Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader credential.
  • A driver's record will be verified, and successful applicants must sign a release authorizing the Department to obtain their permanent driving records.
  • Compliance with Montana Administrative Rule 2.6.201 and MDT Policy #6.03.001 regarding state vehicle use is a condition of employment.
  • Successful applicants must complete Form I-9 and undergo E-Verify employment-eligibility verification.
Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee the bridge inspection program for the assigned inspection area.
  • Plan and manage the bridge inspection program.
  • Perform inspection quality control.
  • Supervise bridge inspectors.
  • Work closely with the Bridge Inspection Program Manager in the Bridge Bureau to help ensure statewide bridge inspection program goals are met.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduate degrees with concentrations in structural analysis and design will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
